Posting guidelines & safety
A few simple rules that keep The Nimbin useful and trustworthy for everyone.
What you can post
- Genuine job vacancies and volunteer roles in the Nimbin area, or remote roles open to locals.
- Work Wanted listings for yourself.
- Community notices: events, meetings, workshops, call-outs, lost and found.
- Classifieds: items, housing, vehicles and local services.
Rules for job ads
- It must be a real, current vacancy. One listing per role; close it when it's filled.
- Pay must be lawful. Jobs must pay at least the minimum set by the relevant award or the national minimum wage. Check rates with the Fair Work Ombudsman. Unpaid roles must be genuine volunteering and listed as “Volunteer”.
- No discrimination. Ads must not exclude people because of age, sex, race, disability, religion, sexuality, family responsibilities or other attributes protected by law.
- No fees to apply. Never ask applicants for money, or for bank or identity details before an offer is made.
- Be clear. Say who the employer is, what the work involves, the hours and how to apply.
Not allowed anywhere on the site
- Scams, pyramid or commission-only “opportunities”, and anything misleading.
- Illegal goods or services, including the sale of drugs, weapons or stolen items.
- Adult services, hateful or harassing content, and personal attacks.
- Other people's private information, or listings posted on someone's behalf without their consent.
- Repeated or duplicate listings, and advertising unrelated to the Nimbin area.
Moderators may edit, decline or remove any listing. If you see something that breaks these rules, use the “Report this listing” link on the listing.
Staying safe
Applying for jobs
- Never pay to apply, for training, or for equipment before you start.
- Be cautious of jobs offering high pay for little work, or that want to move the conversation off to a messaging app straight away.
- Don't send copies of ID, your tax file number or bank details until you have a written offer from a real employer.
- For an interview or trial, tell someone where you're going.
Hiring someone
- Agree on pay, hours and duties in writing before work starts.
- Check references, licences and any required clearances, such as a Working with Children Check.
Buying, selling and renting
- Meet in a public place where you can, and inspect before you pay.
- Don't pay a deposit for a rental you haven't seen.
- Be wary of overpayments, courier “agents” and requests for verification codes.
If you think you've been targeted by a scam, report it to Scamwatch. In an emergency call 000.
